Funny 80s TV / Movie / Pop CultureTees

You should know by now that we adore the 80s over at Poptastic and I recently stumbled upon some cool 80s-inspired pop culture t-shirts on the net. If you're looking for funny, ice-breaking, conversation-starting, attention-grabbing gifts to give your eighties-lovin' loved one, look no further because I've compiled them on this post just for ya.

For the guys... (girls can wear these too)
Fan Club Wonder Lust T-Shirt

"(Stevie) Wonder Lust". Don't just call to say "I Love You", go buy your sweetie this tee!

Fan Club Thunder Bolton T-Shirt

"Thunder Bolton"! I must admit, I got to watch a Michael Bolton concert in the 90s BUT, mind you, (1) my tickets were complimentary - I worked in the ad agency that sponsored the concert; and (2) I was with a friend who was a closet Michael Bolton fan so I braved the soft-rock sappy-ballad extravaganza for her sake.

For the girls...
Fan Club Dirty Dancer Girls T-Shirt

"Dirty Dancer". Well... I really did have the Time of My Life watching Dirty Dancing. Because nobody, but nobody puts baby in a corner! Go Johnny!

FanClub Tiny Danza Girls T-Shirt

"Hold Me Closer, Tiny Danza". Wear this and imagine Elton singing to Tony Danza. Cause he's the boss, LOL

I Wanna Rock With You Girls T-Shirt

What girl did not swoon over Michael Jackson's singing, moonwalking, and gravity-defying dance moves (see Smooth Criminal video) in the 80s? This "Rock With You" shirt is testament to Jacko's glory days.

TR2N Trailer Previewed at the San Diego ComiCon

My husband Arnold is a big huge Tron fan and is upset with the fact that critics never really cared much for the sci-fi movie -- heck, even the Simpsons made fun of it:

# [3F04] Treehouse Of Horror VI - Homer3
Homer tries to explain what the third dimension looks like.
Homer: Uh... it's like... did anyone see the movie 'Tron'?
Hibbert: No.
Lisa: No.
Marge: No.
Wiggum: No.
Bart: No.
Patty: No.
Wiggum: No.
Ned: No.
Selma: No.
Frink: No.
Lovejoy: No.
Wiggum: Yes. I mean... um, I mean, no. No, heh.

(That was a funny episode yes, but you get the point.)

So it's about time that a sequel to the under-appreciated but very influential classic is produced. Titled TR2N, Disney unveiled an exciting clip at the recent SDCC and we have a kind soul to thank for uploading it to Youtube for the benefit of those who couldn't go.

UPDATE: Sorry folks, the video has been taken down. Oh well. I guess we'll all have to wait a year or so to see it.

We actually have a couple of TRON inspired designs in our shop:

Lloyd Dobbler FTW!

This week, Entertainment Weekly cites the 25 most swoon-worthy gestures in movies since 1983 and the first one on the list is John Cusack blasting Peter Gabriel outside Ione Skye's window in 1989's Say Anything.

How can Diane resist this?

Say Anything is one of my favorite movies from the 80s and no matter how many times I watch it this scene never fails to tug at my heartstrings.

Which is why I just had to make a t-shirt out of it.

"In Your Eyes"

In Your Eyes Jr. Jersey T-Shirt

Tuesday Teez : Who's Your Action Hero?

Our design for Tuesday Teez this week is "Who's Your Action Hero?"

Whether it's a drunken martial arts master, a governating ex-bodybuilder, or a yippie-kay-yaying urban cowboy, he's most likely on this shirt. Take your pick, action flick fans! A Poptastic original.

Who's Your Action Hero? Dark T-Shirt

Try and identify each of the action hero icons! (To give you a headstart, why don't you take a look at this list).

10 Excellent 80s Tees on Cafepress

Having grown up in the eighties, it's only natural that a good amount of our t-shirt designs are devoted to the decade that spawned the most outlandish fashion trends in the last century.

So, being a self-touted 80s specialist, I took the liberty of compiling what I think are the 10 Excellent (like, totally) 80s Tees in the Cafepress marketplace, the common thread being that all my picks display (1) wicked wit, (2) gnarly design, and (3) enough ambiguity so that you have to truly be a fan of the decade to get what the design is about (I think any hardcore fan wants that kind of exclusivity, right?).

Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Rock the Kasbah tee
Rock the Kasbah Ringer T
by Monkey Dan Tees. The shareef may not like it, but I sure do.

2. Cassette Tapes
Be Kind, Rewind Jr. Jersey T-Shirt
by MOYA Apparel. Yep, THAT is how it's done!

3. 867-5309 tee
867-5309 Jr. Ringer T-Shirt
by CultClassicTs. Don't be surprised if you get called "Jenny" a lot when wearing it.

4. Soul Glo tee
Just Let Your Soul Glo Light T-Shirt
by CultClassicTs. An alternative to having your locks Jheri Curled.

5. Robot Dance tee
Robot 01 Ash Grey T-Shirt
by Signs of Life. These moves might come in handy when C3PO asks you to be his prom date.

6. 1 Up Mushroom
1up Mushroom Baseball Jersey
by GeekyTeez. Old school gamers used to covet this -- it's one heck of a magic mushroom.

7. Eat Your Fruits
Eat Your Fruits Jr. Jersey T-Shirt
by GeekyTeez. Oh, they're definitely good for you.

8. Billie Jean
Billie Jean Ringer T
by Detour Design. LOL. Ask Jacko what this means.

9. Vanilla Ice
Yo! I'll Solve It Jr. Raglan
by KA Designs. Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it!

10. Break Dance Not Hearts
Break Dance Not Hearts Brown T-Shirt
by KaptainMyke. Amen.

There are tons more awesome eighties t-shirts where these came from. If you think I overlooked a particular excellent (say that ala Bill & Ted now) design, let me know via the comments box below.

New tv/movie/80s designs

T-shirts! Hoodies! Tank tops!
"No soup for you!" - as goes the Soup Nazi in a memorable Seinfeld episode.
"Love is love is nothing without you" - on an old-school computer screen much like in the 80s movie "Electric Dreams". The quote is from the movie's theme, sung by Boy George and the Culture Club.
"A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter" - just so you don't forget, my dear Sesame Street kids.
"War is Stupid" - Boy George sang this in the 80s but the message still rings true today.
"How about a nice game of Global Thermonuclear War?" - as inspired by the 1983 movie "War Games" starring a very young Matthew Broderick.
"Greetings Professor Falken. Shall we play a game?" - Joshua speaks to his father through the power of emerging computer technology in the 80s. Another "War Games" inspired design.
