Bang bang bang on the door, baby To enter the funky old shack, you'll have to knock a little louder, sugar! If you grew up in the 80s, I'm sure you'll recognize the phrase in an instant.
You should know by now that we adore the 80s over at Poptastic and I recently stumbled upon some cool 80s-inspired pop culture t-shirts on the net. If you're looking for funny, ice-breaking, conversation-starting, attention-grabbing gifts to give your eighties-lovin' loved one, look no further because I've compiled them on this post just for ya.
For the guys... (girls can wear these too) "(Stevie) Wonder Lust". Don't just call to say "I Love You", go buy your sweetie this tee!
"Thunder Bolton"! I must admit, I got to watch a Michael Bolton concert in the 90s BUT, mind you, (1) my tickets were complimentary - I worked in the ad agency that sponsored the concert; and (2) I was with a friend who was a closet Michael Bolton fan so I braved the soft-rock sappy-ballad extravaganza for her sake.
For the girls... "Dirty Dancer". Well... I really did have the Time of My Life watching Dirty Dancing. Because nobody, but nobody puts baby in a corner! Go Johnny!
"Hold Me Closer, Tiny Danza". Wear this and imagine Elton singing to Tony Danza. Cause he's the boss, LOL
What girl did not swoon over Michael Jackson's singing, moonwalking, and gravity-defying dance moves (see Smooth Criminal video) in the 80s? This "Rock With You" shirt is testament to Jacko's glory days.
My husband Arnold is a big huge Tron fan and is upset with the fact that critics never really cared much for the sci-fi movie -- heck, even the Simpsons made fun of it:
# [3F04] Treehouse Of Horror VI - Homer3 Homer tries to explain what the third dimension looks like. Homer: Uh... it's like... did anyone see the movie 'Tron'? Hibbert: No. Lisa: No. Marge: No. Wiggum: No. Bart: No. Patty: No. Wiggum: No. Ned: No. Selma: No. Frink: No. Lovejoy: No. Wiggum: Yes. I mean... um, I mean, no. No, heh.
(That was a funny episode yes, but you get the point.)
So it's about time that a sequel to the under-appreciated but very influential classic is produced. Titled TR2N, Disney unveiled an exciting clip at the recent SDCC and we have a kind soul to thank for uploading it to Youtube for the benefit of those who couldn't go.
UPDATE: Sorry folks, the video has been taken down. Oh well. I guess we'll all have to wait a year or so to see it.
We actually have a couple of TRON inspired designs in our shop:
Having grown up in the eighties, it's only natural that a good amount of our t-shirt designs are devoted to the decade that spawned the most outlandish fashion trends in the last century.
So, being a self-touted 80s specialist, I took the liberty of compiling what I think are the 10 Excellent (like, totally) 80s Tees in the Cafepress marketplace, the common thread being that all my picks display (1) wicked wit, (2) gnarly design, and (3) enough ambiguity so that you have to truly be a fan of the decade to get what the design is about (I think any hardcore fan wants that kind of exclusivity, right?).
There are tons more awesome eighties t-shirts where these came from. If you think I overlooked a particular excellent (say that ala Bill & Ted now) design, let me know via the comments box below.
Remember typing .07734 on an old-school calculator and turning it upside down so it would read "Hello"? This design pays tribute to those good old days. However in our version, the calculator saves you the trouble of turning it over by doing an awesome handstand on its own and displays a great sense of humor to boot by quoting a cheesy 80s pop song.

Ixnay on the Orkpay - If a pig learned to speak, what do you think it'll say? We think it's "nix on the pork", in pig latin, natch. Meh. - So what does exactly does it mean? Well for us, it sounds uncannily like what an indifferent goat might say. What's the happy-haps? - Just a cool, groovier way of saying "what's happenin'" You dig? - Dig = beavers = burrowing through the ground. Get it? You dig? I just had another one of my brilliant ideas! - Our tribute to Blair Warner and the fabulous 80s TV series The Facts of Life.

If you've ever watched "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" in the early 90s, you're probably as curious as I am as to what's inside Larry Kubiak's precious brown paper bag. Here's a t-shirt design of "Lary's Lunch" (yes, it's misspelled like that) bag.
